I have been trying to figure out which registry keys need to be modified in order to open macro enabled excel files (*.xlsm) in separate windows?
I followed the instructions on the following pages Microsoft How-To (if you want to open *.xlsx files in separate windows) and relation between registry folders and file extensions (tells which registry keys are associated with which file extensions).
After reading the two websites above, I thought if i modified the Excel.SheetMacroEnabled.12shellopen data (similar to what is described in the first link) the *.xlsm files would then always open in a new window each time.
Instead of this working successfully, now when I try to open an *.xlsm file, a blank excel window comes up with no workbook in it. I reverted all the trial-and-error changes so excel opens *.xlsm files again .. but i still can't get Excel to open the *.xlsm files in a separate window each time. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Microsoft Excel 2010 Separate Windows
Open Excel and workbook appears on screen with icon at bottom. Right click the icon and it will bring up a list of recently opened files as well as 'Microsoft Excel 2010' at the bottom. Left click 'Microsoft Excel 2010' to open a new workbook that you can then drag to another screen. Hope this works for you if I'm not too late with the response.
How Do I Open Two Excel 2010 Files In Separate Windows
Dec 09, 2016 How to tell Excel 2010 to open Excel macro files (xlsm) in separate windows I followed the instructions on the following pages Microsoft How-To (if you want to open.xlsx files in separate windows) and relation between registry folders and file extensions (tells which registry keys are associated with which file extensions). Simply open one of your Excel documents. Now instead of opening the second document the traditional way, you are going to open Microsoft Excel directly. The shortcut to Excel should be located either on your desktop or your computers start menu. So now you should have two visible and separate windows on your desktop. 'How do I open my workbooks in separate windows?' This has been a common inquiry from many of our customers who want to look at their workbooks side by side, or spread them across more than one monitor. Good news: starting with Excel 2013, each of your workbooks opens in its own window, similar to Word and PowerPoint today.
